We are pleased to announce that we have acquired a majority stake in CAPELEC, a specialist in measurement and control equipment for the automotive sector. This primary owner buyout (OBO) transaction is being carried out alongside the CEO, Thierry COTON, son of the founder and head of the company since 2005.
Founded in 1989 and based in Montpellier, Capelec designs, manufactures, and markets a wide range of equipment for technical inspection and maintenance of vehicles (devices for measuring pollutant emissions, braking, skidding, and lighting). Through its Finnish subsidiary Pegasor, the group also develops instruments for measuring fine and ultrafine particles for industry and local authorities, thereby actively contributing to environmental transition.
With over 35 years of technical and industrial expertise, Capelec serves nearly 900 customers in more than 80 countries and is recognized for its innovative capabilities (patents, certifications, proprietary software, etc.). The group is involved in the entire value chain: R&D, design, assembly, software, training, and maintenance.
The group has around 60 employees. Thierry Coton and CICLAD share the ambition of consolidating Capelec’s leading position in France and continuing its international expansion (Capelec already generates more than half of its revenue outside France) and to penetrate new segments with the marketing of ultrafine particle sensors.
